Bihar Jharkhand Association of Midwest (BJUS) Celebrates Diwali with Deepotsav 2025

Schaumburg — November 21:

The Bihar Jharkhand Association of Midwest (BJUS) celebrated Diwali Deepotsav 2025 with exceptional enthusiasm and community spirit, bringing together more than 200 attendees for an evening that honored cultural heritage, unity, and the festive joy of Diwali.

 

 

The event commenced with moving renditions of the U.S. and Indian national anthems, performed by elementary school students under the guidance of Dr. Arti Manchanda. This was followed by a dynamic lineup of cultural performances featuring children and adults, traditional music, and a ceremonial diya-lighting symbolizing hope, positivity, and new beginnings. The diya-lighting was coordinated by the BJUS core team and graced by Chief Guest Mr. K.D. Thokchom, Deputy Consul General of India.

 

Guests enjoyed an array of authentic Diwali delicacies, while lively music from the DJ ensured a festive and engaging atmosphere throughout the evening.

 

Key highlights included an inspiring address by the Chief Guest and thoughtful remarks from community leaders Ms. Neelam Dwivedi and Mr. Harish Kolasani. The event program was skillfully emceed by BJUS members Mr. Pramod Kumar Singh and Mr. Pankaj Kumar, whose warm and engaging hosting contributed to the event’s success.

 

A new highlight of this year’s celebration was the presence of informational and business booths, offering valuable resources to attendees:

• State Bank of India (SBI): The CEO and four Vice Presidents presented information on banking services, schemes, and account-opening opportunities.

• Eye Level Naperville: Representatives shared details about their academic enrichment programs, curriculum, and the supportive learning environment offered to students.

• Attorney Sagar Thakkar: Specializing in wills and trusts, he engaged with community members and sponsored a raffle prize, adding excitement to the event.

 

In her address, BJUS President Mrs. Shikha Kumari expressed gratitude to the community:

“Today’s Diwali celebration reflects the strength of our community and the richness of our shared cultural roots. It is deeply uplifting to see families and friends come together to honor our traditions with such pride and unity.”

 

 

President Kumari also highlighted major accomplishments of the 2024–2026 BJUS leadership team, celebrating its successful first anniversary. Beyond flagship events such as Holi, Diwali, and the annual picnic, she recognized several impactful initiatives, including:

• Women’s and Men’s Cricket Tournaments in collaboration with local sports groups

• Volunteer activities at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC)

• Pickleball and badminton tournaments

• Participation in India’s Independence Day celebration at the LCIA event, showcasing the rich culture of Bihar and Jharkhand

• Representation at the National India Hub Parade

• Organizing CPR training for BJUS members

• Co-sponsoring Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, a flagship event by the Consulate General commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, alongside five other state associations

 

BJUS remains committed to promoting cultural exchange, strengthening community ties, and organizing meaningful initiatives that celebrate the vibrant traditions of Bihar and Jharkhand.
