Gov. Greg Abbott Announces Fourth-Term Bid at Houston Event
Houston:
Texas Governor Greg Abbott officially launched his campaign for a historic fourth term during a public event in Houston, energizing supporters and setting the stage for a competitive 2026 gubernatorial race. If successful, Abbott would become the longest-serving governor in modern Texas history.
Addressing a packed crowd, Abbott emphasized border security, economic expansion, and public safety as the core themes of his new campaign. “Houston represents the strength and diversity of Texas,” Abbott said. “I’m running for another term to keep our state secure, prosperous, and moving forward.”
Abbott highlighted his record since taking office in 2015, pointing to job creation, major corporate investments, and what he called “the strongest state economy in America.” Supporters at the event praised his leadership on immigration and tax policy, while critics argue the state needs fresh solutions on education, healthcare access, and cost of living.
Political observers note that announcing in Houston, the state’s largest and most diverse city, reflects Abbott’s push to broaden his appeal beyond traditional Republican strongholds as the state’s demographics rapidly evolve.
Campaign officials say Abbott will kick off a statewide tour in the coming weeks, with planned stops in West Texas, the Rio Grande Valley, and the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
The Texas gubernatorial election will be held in November 2026.
