Following discussions on a potential government budget solution, the Senate will perform a test vote. For a somewhat uncommon Friday session, the Senate will remain in session tomorrow. In a separate closed-door lunch, Majority Leader John Thune informed members that he intends to introduce a short-term financing package that will reopen the government for the fifteenth time.

Senators are seeking to make a number of amendments to the plan if Democrats supply 60 votes. A number of changes to the bill are being considered by the bipartisan group of senators from the rank-and-file who have been negotiating a way out of the shutdown. It is anticipated that lawmakers would try to move the expiration date of the short-term extension of government financing to an unspecified later date.
