(Brooklyn, NY)— Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) will honor the traditions of Holi with a day-long celebration on Saturday, April 6. Celebrate Holi, co-presented with Ajna Dance Company and The Culture Tree, is BCM’s annual celebration of the popular Hindu festival. Over 5,000 people attended last year’s celebration, making Celebrate Holi the Museum’s largest program, and one of the largest Holi events in New York City.

Also known as the “Color Festival,” Holi originated in India and is now celebrated by millions of people worldwide. Holi celebrates the arrival of spring, as well as the concepts of love, new beginnings, good over evil, and the end of conflict. Traditions vary from country to country, but popular festivities often include bonfires and the throwing of colorful powders. This year, Holi will be observed across the world on March 25.

“Brooklyn Children’s Museum is proud to present Celebrate Holi, a day of art, dance, food, and music,” said Atiba T. Edwards, President and CEO of Brooklyn Children’s Museum. “Now in its seventh year, Celebrate Holi has quickly become one of NYC’s largest Holi celebrations and our most-attended event. Our success has been in no small part due to our incredible line-up of program partners and performers, many of whom have been with us since the beginning. We invite you to come out next Saturday and share in a day of joy that celebrates springtime, color, and play.”

The day will be split into three sessions, each 2.5 hours long, beginning at 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm. The performance line-up is the same for each session, and each culminates in color powder play.

Ajna Dance Company will perform Bollywood dance routines and The Culture Tree will present food workshops, where guests will learn how to make thandai, a popular Indian cold drink.

The day’s activities will also include:

Interactive puppet shows presented by WonderSpark Puppets that tell the story of Holi through action, humor, and imagination.

Delicious food from a line-up of New York-based vendors, including ice cream delicacies from Malai Ice Cream, tasty treats from TAGMO, and traditional Indian bites and snacks from Veeray da Dhaba.

Color powder play at Brower Park. Powder is available for purchase online and onsite at BCM on the day of Celebrate Holi. Wearing white is encouraged!

Celebrate Holi will take place on Saturday, April 6 starting at 10:00 am. Tickets are $15 for general admission and grant access to all of the day’s programs. Tickets are free for children under one year-old. To purchase tickets, visit: www.brooklynkids.org/holi.
