Quitting tech giant jobs and moving to Bengaluru; Indian couple sparks a wave of 'reverse migration'

Indian couple Hemant Pandey and Varsha Sharma have left senior roles at top U.S. tech companies including IBM, Meta, Google, and Tesla to return to India. Last year, they decided to settle in Bengaluru, symbolizing a growing trend of “reverse migration,” where professionals who once moved abroad for better opportunities and lifestyle are now returning for family ties and India’s rising prospects.

In a social media post, the couple explained the reasons behind their move. Chief among them was the strong and secure family bond they felt was missing while living overseas. They wanted to be part of family gatherings, festivals, and closer everyday life with relatives.

India’s progress in the tech sector, along with the strong presence of companies like Tesla, Meta, and Google, also inspired their return. They realized that building a successful career no longer required living in the U.S.

After achieving financial stability, they sought a happier and more peaceful life with family rather than the fast-paced, stressful environment of Silicon Valley. Concerns over U.S. visa rules and the constant fear of deportation were also major factors. They wanted to live in a place without the insecurity of immigration restrictions.

Their story reflects a wider movement encouraging skilled professionals to return home. Emotional bonds and India’s growing economy are drawing many to reconsider priorities. For many Indian professionals who once saw migration to the U.S. as a dream, this shift highlights changing values and aspirations.
