'This is not due to parental negligence, but a serious safety issue'; mother campaigns to improve safety standards in stores for her daughter.

After her daughter was injured at the Harris Scarfe store in Blacktown Westpoint, a mother is campaigning to improve safety standards in Australian retail stores. Maureen Ahluwalia, a resident of Western Sydney, raised the issue.
On July 8, her two-year-old daughter Amaira narrowly avoided serious eye injury from a dress rack hook in the store. Although the child’s eye bled, it was later confirmed that her vision was not affected. However, the store owner’s refusal to provide CCTV footage of the incident prompted Maureen to take up the fight.
“Many children have lost their vision in similar incidents. This is not due to parental negligence but a serious safety issue,” Maureen said. She emphasized that her campaign is not for compensation but to ensure the safety of children. With the support of Labor MP Stephen Bali, Maureen has submitted a petition to the New South Wales (NSW) Parliament, calling for safer fixtures in retail stores to prevent such accidents.
