Sumathi Valavu - A malayalam horror comedy film

Get ready for a thrilling ride inspired by spine-tingling folklore and chilling real-life events! The film takes its cue from a haunting legend in Mylamoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, where a tragic tale unfolds. In the 1950s, a woman named Sumathi, pregnant and full of life, met a gruesome fate at the hands of her lover. Ever since, locals have whispered of her restless spirit haunting the area, weaving a tapestry of supernatural occurrences that draws the curious and brave alike!

Adding a twist, it’s rumored that some criminal elements have exploited the ghostly tales to keep nosy locals at bay, allowing their shady dealings to flourish undisturbed. The filmmakers have beautifully blended these eerie stories into an exhilarating horror-comedy, creating an electrifying narrative that captivates and entertains.

Produced by Murali Kunnumpurath with Think Studios under the banner of Waterman Films LLP, principal photography kicked off in the scenic landscapes of Palakkad, Kerala. With PV Shankar lending his artistry to the cinematography, and Shafiq Muhammad Ali tying it all together through seamless editing, this film is set to be a visual treat. Plus, the music crafted by Ranjin Raj is sure to add to the excitement!

While the film is full of entertainment, it veers off the path from its intriguing title. Featuring strong performances from Arjun Ashokan, Gokul Suresh, and the talented cast, the narrative primarily focuses on a love story that, despite being average, takes center stage instead of the ghostly lore of “Sumathi” and her “valavu.” Of course, Arjun Ashokan and Malavika Manoj did well with their romance too. This slight misstep might leave some viewers yearning for more depth in the haunting elements. The film aspires to evoke vibes reminiscent of Rajkumar Rao’s “Stree,” but it doesn't quite reach those heights.

The background music is decent, though the songs don't quite hit the mark. Overall, this film is an entertaining watch—just buckle up and don’t set your expectations too high!
