Gunman Opens Fire in Manhattan Office Tower, Kills 4 Including NYPD Officer

A shooting at a Manhattan skyscraper on Monday evening left four people dead and one critically injured. The gunman, identified as Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, later died by suicide. Among the deceased was NYPD officer Didarul Islam.

The incident occurred at 345 Park Avenue, which houses offices of the NFL, Blackstone, and other major firms. Tamura entered the building around 6:30 p.m. carrying an M4 rifle, shot a police officer, two people in the lobby, and one person on the 33rd floor before taking his own life. Authorities confirmed that he had a history of mental health issues, though the motive remains unknown.

Officer Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi immigrant, had been serving with the NYPD for over three years. He is survived by his pregnant wife and two children.

Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said weapons, ammunition, and medications were found in Tamura’s car, suggesting he may have traveled across the country before the attack. The incident triggered panic, with employees fleeing or taking shelter. An investigation is ongoing.
