HAF complaint against California Civil Rights Dept dismissed on procedural grounds

On July 18, 2025, the California District Court issued an opinion dismissing the complaint filed by the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) and several individual plaintiffs against the Director of the California Civil Rights Department for pushing “caste discrimination” allegations with biased stereotypes about Hindus, people of Indian origin or ancestry, and South Asians broadly.

In response to the ruling, HAF Managing Director Samir Kalra, Esq. stated:

“HAF is particularly disappointed that this ruling fails to protect the Constitutional rights of the Hindu American and South Asian American communities, with the Court relying on a discretionary procedural tool to avoid a full review. This case raises issues of significant public interest and deserves a transparent and comprehensive review on the merits. This ruling is a missed opportunity for the Court to address critical issues which impact Hindus and South Asians across the United States every day.”

HAF remains committed to thoroughly evaluating and pursuing all available options, including appealing the decision, to ensure our community’s concerns are fully and fairly considered. We invite the public to join us in advocating for a judicial process which prioritizes substantive review to uphold justice.
