Los Angeles: American rapper and singer of Indian descent, Raja Kumari, achieved a proud milestone at the American Music Awards (AMA). At the 51st AMA ceremony, she won the award in the “Favorite Soundtrack” category for the song "Renegade (We Never Run)," featured in the series Arcane: League of Legends. With this win, Raja Kumari became the first artist of Indian origin to receive an American Music Award, marking a historic achievement.
The grand award ceremony took place in Los Angeles on May 27. Renegade (We Never Run) was a collaboration between Raja Kumari, UK hip-hop artist Stefflon Don, and Dominican-Brazilian singer DeMarco. Upon release, the song received critical acclaim and gained popularity among music lovers worldwide.
“I didn’t expect anything beyond simply contributing a song to a series,” Raja Kumari said. “But the song managed to create a strong emotional impact. I was approached for this project because the character in the series is Indian. They chose me not only to represent our culture but also as a woman capable of creating powerful, aggressive music.”
Born as Svetha Yallapragada Rao to Telugu parents in California, Raja Kumari is known for blending Indian classical music with hip-hop to create a distinctive artistic style.
