Lt. Governor Miller and Secretary Coker Bring Maryland’s Cyber Prominence to Center Stage at RSA 2025

San Francisco, CA –
This week, Lieutenant Governor Aruna K. Miller and Maryland Secretary of Commerce Harry Coker, Jr. attended the RSA Cybersecurity Conference, one of the world’s premier gatherings of cybersecurity leaders, held annually in San Francisco.

The international conference brought together global industry experts, innovators, and policymakers to address the most urgent issues facing cybersecurity today. Lt. Governor Miller and Secretary Coker used the opportunity to spotlight Maryland’s leadership in cyber innovation, workforce development, and national defense, and to strengthen Maryland’s role as a top destination for cybersecurity investment and talent.

“Maryland isn’t just keeping pace—we’re setting the standard,” said Lt. Governor Miller. “With one of the most robust pipelines for tech talent in the country and unmatched assets like our universities, military installations, and federal research hubs, we are building the future of cybersecurity right here. At RSA, I made it clear: Maryland is where innovation meets mission—and we intend to lead the nation.”

Maryland, which is home to more than 18,000 I.T. companies and is consistently ranked as one of the most innovative states, has a unique collection of in-state assets that elevate our region.

Additionally, Maryland is ranked in the top five nationally for workers specializing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and for the highest concentrations of doctoral scientists and engineers.

“Not only does Maryland have cybersecurity assets that no other state can match, we are making important investments to secure the state’s leadership in fields like AI and quantum,” said Maryland Secretary of Commerce Harry Coker, Jr. “It’s been a privilege to attend the RSA Conference, connect with cyber professionals and thought leaders from around the world, and share why Maryland is where they should be doing business.”

"I was pleased to join Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller and Secretary Harry Coker at Tenable's booth in San Francisco at RSA Conference 2025,” said Tenable Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs James Hayes. “Tenable is proud to represent Maryland innovation with its unwavering commitment to the cybersecurity mission, alongside strong partners in the Moore-Miller Administration. We discussed the importance of cybersecurity and the mission-critical capabilities of Tenable's exposure management platform that help approximately 44,000 organizations gain visibility into the risk they face from across the modern attack surface."

What makes Maryland a national leader in cybersecurity:

Historically strong relationship with our in-state military partners at Fort Meade, NSA, U.S. Cyber Command, the Defense Information Systems Agency, the National Institute of Standards and Technology – plus a range of Army and Navy research installations
World-class research universities like the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins, and Morgan State that drive innovation and are top producers of cybersecurity talent
Community of private-sector cyber companies like Dragos, EnVeil, Huntress, Netography, ZeroFox, Tenable, Patero, Cyberpoint, Personam
Strong collection of small businesses, which are the backbone of the state’s economy, including Cydeploy, TurnGate, and Cloudforce

Background on RSA: The RSA Conference is a series of IT security conferences with roughly 45,000 attendees per year. It was founded in 1991 as a small cryptography conference. RSA conferences take place in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the United Arab Emirates each year. The conference also hosts educational, professional networking, and awards programs. This year’s conference took place in San Francisco and was themed, “Where the world talks security.”
