Santan Nasrath (82) and his wife Flavia died by suicide after being threatened by fraudsters. The incident took place in Belagavi. The fraudsters approached the couple, falsely claiming to be officials from BSNL Delhi.
They alleged that the couple’s mobile number was being used for unauthorized advertisements, instilling fear in them. Subsequently, the fraudsters, pretending to be police officers, contacted them over the phone. They demanded money to settle the case, warning that failure to do so would result in severe consequences, including a "digital arrest."
With no one to support them, the frightened couple took their own lives. A suicide note explaining the ordeal they faced was recovered.
