GOP Divided Over Impeaching Judges Who Block Trump's Agenda

A rift is growing among congressional Republicans on whether to impeach federal judges who oppose former President Trump's policies. Trump recently urged the impeachment of U.S. District Judge James Boasberg after he halted a deportation order, prompting Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) to file impeachment articles.
While some House Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson, are open to the idea, key figures like Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) and Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) reject it, citing constitutional norms. Chief Justice John Roberts also pushed back, emphasizing that impeachment is not a remedy for judicial disagreements.
Despite Trump's pressure, GOP leaders face significant opposition and a narrow House majority, making any impeachment effort challenging.
