QR Codes on Graves Cause Panic; Police Finally Uncover the Truth
It is common to see graves decorated with flowers and candles in cemeteries. However, visitors to a cemetery in Munich were met with an unusual sight—QR codes placed on the graves. The presence of these codes had raised questions for months. Now, the mystery has finally been solved.
Since last December, people visiting their loved ones' graves began noticing QR codes affixed to the tombstones, leading to widespread concern. More than a thousand stickers had been placed on various graves. When scanned, the QR codes displayed the names and locations of the deceased. These 5×3.5 cm stickers were found on both old and new graves across cemeteries such as Waldfriedhof, Sendlinger Friedhof, and Friedhof Solln.
As public concern grew, the police intervened in the matter. Eventually, they identified the source of the stickers—a local gardening business. Though the company's name has not been disclosed, it was responsible for cemetery maintenance. According to Alfred Sanker, the company's senior manager, the stickers were placed to help workers identify which graves had been cleaned and maintained.
