Young Man Claims Possession by Neyyattinkara Gopan, Creates Chaos; Later Admitted to Mental Health Center
A young man caused a commotion, claiming that he was possessed by Neyyattinkara Gopan. The incident took place in Chembarathivila, Thozhukkal, Neyyattinkara. The man created a disturbance in local houses, assaulted three youths, and vandalized motorcycles before the police intervened and transferred him to the Thiruvananthapuram Mental Health Center.
Initially, he was taken to Neyyattinkara General Hospital, but due to his aggressive behavior, he was later moved to the mental health facility. Even during the ambulance ride, he caused trouble, forcing authorities to restrain him before transferring him to Peroorkada Hospital.
Reports suggest that the man worked at a nearby temple. The controversy surrounding Gopan Swami's death last month in Athiannoor Kavuvila is believed to have influenced the incident. Gopan Swami, a bedridden man, had reportedly walked to his tomb on his own and attained ‘samadhi’ (spiritual liberation), according to his family.
His tomb has since become a place of prayer and worship, attracting many devotees. Amid this, the young man claimed that Gopan’s spirit had possessed him, leading to his violent outburst.
