Dowry was insufficient; in-laws inject HIV into woman; police reluctant to file a case

In-laws Inject HIV into Woman Over Additional Dowry Demand; Police Initially Refuse to File Case
A shocking incident has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, where a woman's in-laws allegedly injected her with the HIV virus after her family refused to meet additional dowry demands. The victim's father has come forward with the allegations.

According to the complaint, two years ago, Sonal Saini was married to Abhishek, also known as Sachin, the son of Nathiram Saini from Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh. As dowry, Sonal’s father had given the groom’s family a car and ₹15 lakh. However, Abhishek’s family was not satisfied with this. A few months after the wedding, they demanded a Scorpio SUV and an additional ₹25 lakh.

When Sonal's family refused to meet these demands, her in-laws forced her out of their house. Following this, the local village council intervened and ensured her return to her husband's home. However, after she rejoined the household, Sonal faced severe mental and physical abuse. She was frequently beaten without reason.

Amidst this harassment, her in-laws allegedly injected her with a syringe containing the HIV virus, according to her family’s accusations.

Recently, Sonal’s health deteriorated, prompting a medical examination, which confirmed that she was HIV-positive. However, her husband tested negative for the virus. Despite these findings, when the family approached the police to file a complaint, the authorities initially refused to register a case.

Following this, the family took the matter to court. Based on the court’s order, the police finally registered a case against Sonal’s husband and his parents.
