Maharashtra government set to introduce legislation against Love Jihad.

The Maharashtra government is preparing to introduce legislation against forced religious conversions and Love Jihad. A seven-member committee, headed by DGP Sanjay Varma, has been formed to examine the legal and technical aspects of the proposed law. The committee includes representatives from the Home, Law, Justice, Social Justice, and Women & Child Development departments.
Several organizations and citizens have submitted petitions demanding a law to curb Love Jihad and fraudulent or forced religious conversions. Some Indian states have already enacted laws to address this issue.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had previously called for a law against Love Jihad in Maharashtra. He alleged that Muslim men use fake identities to lure Hindu women into marriage, ultimately leading to religious conversion. He described this as a deliberate conspiracy and reaffirmed his strong commitment to eradicating Love Jihad. The formation of this committee marks the first step toward drafting the new law.
