Wildfire in Amboori; Around 150 acres of land burned

A wildfire broke out in Amboori, Thiruvananthapuram, spreading across the Kurichi area of Kandamthitta ward in Amboori Panchayat. The fire erupted in an uninhabited forested region, and initial reports suggest that it started from a burning thicket.
The previous evening, a small wildfire had already occurred in the same area, which was extinguished by local residents and the fire force. However, by noon today, the fire reignited and spread rapidly.
Thanks to the efforts of the fire force and local residents, the fire was contained before it could spread further. They removed dry leaves and branches from nearby areas to prevent it from advancing, thereby avoiding a major disaster. Although the fire did not spread to residential areas, around 150 acres of forest consisting of Parangi trees and Acacia trees was completely destroyed.
The wildfire primarily affected remote forested areas, making access difficult due to the lack of roads. This posed a significant challenge for the fire force team. Two fire force units from Kallikkad and Killi had to pump water repeatedly through long hoses to reach the affected region.
Currently, the fire has not reached human settlements, but authorities remain on high alert as the nearby areas consist of farmlands and densely populated regions. The fire is spreading as burning trees collapse, causing flames to spread further.
Ward member Jayan confirmed that the fire has now been fully controlled. However, he also noted that a similar situation occurred the previous day when the fire was extinguished in the evening, only for it to rekindle the next day.
