7-Year-Old with Deep Wound on Neck; Sealed with Fevikwik Instead of Stitches; Action Against Nurse

Nurse Suspended for Using Fevikwik Instead of Stitches on Facial Wound

A nurse has been suspended for using Fevikwik to seal a facial wound instead of stitching it. The incident involved 7-year-old Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani, who was admitted with a deep wound on his neck. The incident occurred on January 14 at the Adur Primary Health Center in the Hangal Taluk of Haveri district. The nurse involved, named Jyothi, works at a government hospital in Karnataka.

Gurukishan was admitted with a deep wound on his neck, which was bleeding profusely. However, despite the wound being one that required stitches, the nurse did not provide the necessary primary treatment and instead used Fevikwik to seal the wound. The family reported that the nurse expressed concerns about using stitches, but insisted that Fevikwik was better than stitches, which might leave permanent scars on the child’s face. The family claimed that their concerns were dismissed by the nurse. They had recorded a video of the incident.

The family subsequently approached the police with a complaint and handed over the video they had captured. Following this, the nurse, Jyothi, was transferred to the Guthal Health Institute in Haveri Taluk. Due to the severe public backlash caused by the incident, she was suspended. The state government took action against the nurse after reviewing the preliminary report of the case, and a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary of the state decided on the suspension.
