The death of Anamika, a Malayali nursing student in Karnataka, was caused by mental harassment from the college authorities.

Anamika's family has accused the management of Dayananda Sagar College of subjecting her to severe mental harassment, which allegedly led to her tragic death. A voice recording has surfaced, indicating that Anamika was under extreme mental stress. In the recording, she can be heard saying, "If I stay here, they will fail me and give me a supply (supplementary exam). Do they think I'm mad? Then what's the point of me staying here?" She also expressed that she was unable to concentrate on her studies and that she had been suspended.

The family further alleged that her suicide note was concealed and that she faced immense pressure, including financial stress over fees. Anamika’s classmates also confirmed that Malayali students have been subjected to continuous mental harassment at the college. Her roommate had previously attempted suicide, according to her relatives. Despite these serious allegations, the college authorities have remained silent on the matter, the family claims.

Following her death, Anamika’s classmates staged a protest outside the college gate, alleging that she was verbally humiliated by the principal and a few faculty members. They also claimed that two separate suicide notes were written by Anamika—one addressed to her family and another detailing the actions of the college management and faculty. However, students now allege that one of the notes has gone missing, suspecting that it has been deliberately hidden.

Students further accused the college of failing them in internal exams on unreasonable grounds, such as interacting with male students. Despite these serious allegations, the college management has completely denied any wrongdoing. They stated that the only action taken against Anamika was for allegedly copying during an exam.
