Maryland Lt. Governor Aruna Miller Serves as President of Maryland’s 60th Electoral College Meeting
ANNAPOLIS, MD December 18 :
Maryland Democrats convened as the state’s presidential electors at the Maryland State House to formally cast Maryland’s electoral votes for the president and vice president of the United States. Maryland’s Lt. Governor Aruna Miller served as the President of Maryland’s Electoral College and took her place as one of the state’s ten presidential electors.
“This is an important constitutional responsibility, and I am honored to serve in this role on behalf of the people of Maryland,” said Lt. Governor Miller.
This year marks the 60th meeting of Maryland’s electors, continuing a long-standing tradition of participating in the Electoral College process.
The ceremony began with remarks from Governor Wes Moore, who officially kicked off the event at 9 a.m. in the Maryland State House. In accordance with Federal and State law, the electors took an oath before the Clerk of the Supreme Court and cast their votes reflecting the outcome of the state’s popular vote, officially awarding Maryland’s electoral votes to Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic ticket.
The electoral votes will be sealed and sent to the U.S. Senate, where Congress will convene on January 6, 2025, to officially count and certify the electoral votes from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
In addition to Lt. Governor Miller, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, and other prominent leaders joined the gathering to witness this vital democratic process. This occasion highlights Maryland’s commitment to ensuring that every vote cast contributes to the national outcome.
The Electoral College meeting occurs on the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday of December following a presidential general election, as mandated by federal law. This year’s gathering continues a legacy of civic engagement and procedural integrity.
