US Elections 2024: Obama Names Tim Walz as Perfect Choice for Vice President

August 7 :
Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, has the backing of former president Barack Obama, who said that Walz would be an excellent vice president because he believes in a government that works for everyone, not just chosen groups.

Obama offered his congratulations to Walz, his wife Gwen, and their family as well as the nation, and he lauded Walz's performance. The belief that the government exists to serve the people is shared by Governor @Tim_Walz and Vice President Harris. Every single one of us, not just a few. That is the quality that has made him an exceptional governor and will further elevate him to the position of vice president. Barack Obama expressed his and Michelle Obama's immense happiness for Tim and Gwen, their families, and our nation in a Tuesday post on X.

Following Kamala Harris's selection of Walz as her running mate in the US election, Barack and Michelle Obama issued a statement on Tuesday. Picking a running partner for a presidential campaign is a great indicator of the candidate's character and the kind of leader they will be. Will our divides widen as a result of their inexperience and divisive stance? Alternatively, would they select an individual who possesses the wisdom to make difficult judgments and the integrity to think that each person's opinion matters and should be given a fair opportunity?" the statement said.

"By selecting Tim Walz to be her vice president from a pool of outstanding Democrats, Kamala Harris has chosen an ideal partner - and made it clear exactly what she stands for," the report said. Walz is an outstanding candidate for vice president, according to Obama, who is confident in his qualifications and expertise.

Not only does Governor Walz possess the necessary experience to serve as vice president, but he also embodies the principles and ethics that bring great honor to our state. "During his time as governor, Tim assisted families and businesses in their recovery from the pandemic. He also instituted paid family leave, ensured the right to an abortion, and implemented common sense measures to protect communities from gun violence," the statement added.

"But Tim's signature is his ability to talk like a human being and treat everyone with decency and respect - not all that surprising considering the fact that he served in the National Guard for 24 years and worked as a high school social studies teacher and football coach before being elected to Congress," the report said.

Walz is the chair of the Democratic Governors Association in addition to being a former educator and second-term governor, according to CNN. Walz represented a conservative-leaning rural seat that has been overwhelmingly Republican for twelve years before becoming governor. According to CNN, on Tuesday (local time), Harris and Walz attended Harris's first event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A sold-out and raucous audience filled Temple University's Liacouras Center for the event. Amid thunderous ovation, the contenders stepped onto the stage in unison.
