Ottawa, August 3:
Canadian MP Chandra Arya said Friday that the government would encourage legitimate refugee claimants but crack down o those who abused their 'generous' refugee system. Arya said many visa-holders request for asylum in Canada soon after arriving.

The article stated that the Canadian government attempted to introduce an omnibus bill in spring to reduce the backlog and streamline the procedure. However, it failed. Critics argue that the board needs additional decision-makers and that the government should reduce the backlog and offer alternatives. Immigration lawyer Maureen Silcoff told the Toronto Star that asylum seekers working in labor-short areas can immigrate to Canada. "That could be win-win," he remarked.
