Drug Distribution Network: Two Indian-Origin Men Arrested in the US

Aug 2 :
In Boston, two individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of dealing in controlled narcotics. Prosecutors in Fresno, California, filed charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled narcotics against Simranjit Singh, 28, and Gusimrat Singh, 19, respectively.

Jurors were informed about a drug-trafficking organization (DTO) in California that was planning to ship narcotics to Boston, as stated in court records. A member of this DTO agreed to sell undercover investigators 65 pounds (about 32 kilograms) of methamphetamine after they began conversing with them. Undercover agents were to get methamphetamine from a white tractor-trailer that arrived at a prearranged location in Andover on July 29. Suspected methamphetamine weighing 65 pounds was turned over to the agents by Gusimrat Singh and Simranjit Singh, the drivers and passengers of the car. The men were apprehended without delay.

Authorities found more than 400 kilograms of suspected cocaine, valued at over $10.5 million, during a search of the tractor-trailer cab, according to court filings. The maximum penalty for a controlled substance distribution conspiracy offense is twenty years in prison, three years to life on supervised release, and a fine of one million dollars. A judge in a federal district court decides on a sentence after reviewing applicable laws and the United States Sentencing Guidelines.

Concerning and potentially harmful is the large quantity of narcotics confiscated in this particular case. The accused reportedly traveled across the nation with the intent of distributing illegal drugs to communities in Massachusetts, according to Acting US Attorney Joshua S. Levy. Our committed law enforcement partners have worked tirelessly to stop dangerous narcotics from accessing our streets, and for that I am eternally thankful. Be warned, drug traffickers: we will track you down and bring federal charges against you to their maximum potential.
