Biden to Outline Future Vision in White House Speech; GOP Escalates Criticism of Harris

July 24 :
US President Joe Biden will make his first public address since endorsing Democratic Party presidential nominee Kamala Harris and announcing his resignation from the 2024 election race (Washington DC, July 24). Biden stated in his post on X that he will address the nation from the Oval Office about what remains ahead and how he will finish the work for the American people. According to him, the talk would be delivered at 8 pm ET on July 24

On Tuesday, Biden returned to the White House after spending the past week recovering at his Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, home after being diagnosed with COVID-19. As the Democratic Party's nominee, Biden is running for reelection to the office of president in the upcoming US election on November 5. His opponents in the Democratic Party tried to get him to drop out of the race during their June 27 debate. After this, on July 21, Biden officially stated that he is not seeking reelection and encouraged Vice President Kamala Harris to run for president.

On the other hand, Harris has swiftly won over Democrats and has delegates to her name, making her the clear frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. Harris must win over the majority of delegates at the August DNC in Chicago if she is to be named the party's presidential nominee.

Two of the most influential Democrats in Congress, Chuck Schumer (the majority leader of the Senate) and Hakeem Jeffries (the minority leader of the House), are on her side. According to the news outlet Axios, Harris is most likely to select Mark Kelly (a senator from Arizona) or Josh Shapiro (the governor of Pennsylvania) as her running partner in the upcoming elections. At the same time, campaign attacks against Harris have intensified from the Republican side. Anderson Ogles, a Republican senator from Tennessee, impeached Harris on Tuesday.

According to the Hill, the report builds on other publications that criticize Harris's immigration record. The president's mental health was allegedly concealed by Harris, which he calls a "breach of public trust." "Kamala Devi Harris has knowingly misled the people of the United States and the Congress of the United States, principally to obfuscate the physical and cognitive well-being of the President of the United States, Joe Biden," according to The Hill's report.
