US-India Relations Backed by Both Democrats and Republicans": Former Foreign Secretary Shringla on Upcoming Elections

July 24,:
There has been a ratcheting up of the political tensions in the US following the failed assassination attempt on former US President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and US President Joe Biden's announcement that he would not seek re-election in the "best interest" of the Democratic Party, instead endorsing US Vice President Kamala Harris as the party's presidential nominee.

Former US foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla stated that the relationship with India is supported by both Democrats and Republicans, in light of such seismic events in the US.

Shringla discussed the presidential contest and its potential effects on India-US relations . We Indians should be proud that our country's relationship with the United States has the backing of lawmakers on both the left and the right. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are in favor of maintaining ties with India. "I don't see the relationship being affected by either candidate, whether it is President Biden, Vice President Kamla Harris, or former President Trump," he told , adding that even within India, there is a basically consensus that a good relationship with the United States is in our benefit.

Regardless of who wins the presidency—President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, or even former president Trump—India will remain unaffected, according to Shringla.

November 2024 is when the US presidential elections are set to take place. Following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the contest, Vice President Kamla Harris and former President Donald Trump are expected to compete for the presidency in the United States.

The former foreign secretary went on to say that the United States' and India's relationship will be stronger going forward.

That aspect is satisfactory; our connection will grow stronger; it will maintain its prominence and be considered crucial to US strategy and policy. There has been a clear emphasis on India in these measures. He went on to say that Biden had invited the prime minister to several major conferences on climate change, sustainable development, democracy, and other related topics, and that he had been the first to invite the prime minister to the QUAD summit level.

I believe he has been very respectful of the relationship, and I have no doubt that Vice President Kamla Harris will maintain that policy," Shringla stated. Not to mention, President Trump presided over a period of tremendous accomplishment. The former US foreign secretary predicted that the next US presidential election would be a more intense contest than in the past, noting that Trump has an advantage due to his long campaign history and the recent endorsement of Kamala Harris, a former California attorney general and vice president, as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

"It will be a stronger contest now, he remarked, adding, Trump has some advantages from being the candidate for much longer and being around on the scene," In reference to Biden's decision to drop out of the campaign, Harsh Vardhan Shringla stated that several Democrats were worried that President Biden had the competence to successfully lead the party in another election.

"I think a lot of this came to the public attention when he didn’t perform very well in the last presidential debate that he had with former president Trump, so as a result of those pressures, President Biden has now dropped out, but he has endorsed his vice president Kamala Harris to be the Democratic candidate," according to him.

In addition to the approximately 2,000 delegates who will choose the next leader, Shringla said that the democratic convention is set to take place on August 19.

Following the proper procedure is essential. On August 19, the democratic convention is supposed to take place. At the Democratic convention, almost 2,000 delegates will choose the next president. The vice president has a leg up in the race because the departing president has endorsed her and mentioned her wish for her to be the candidate, he added.

"She has obviously been exposed nationally, whereas other contenders may not be very well known and with the very short time remaining, it is likely the Democrats will coalesce support around her but that process has to be gone through, and we cannot be sure until she is appointed as the democratic candidate at the convention on August 19," said Shringla.

Vice President Harris, he continued, will be nominated since she is well-known and stands for the continuation of President Biden's ideas.
V.P. Harris, in my opinion, will be the nominee. She is well-known on a national level due to her tenure as vice president. On the other hand, Democrats can rest easy knowing that she stands for the policies that President Biden has put in place. Being older gives her a leg up. He added that, as a 59-year-old, she has more clout than Trump (78), and that she can win over groups like African-Americans and women on topics like abortion legislation.

The previous president Trump and, most likely, Vice President Kamala Harris will now compete for the Democratic nomination, he said, adding that there is a certain momentum in her favor. President Trump was not only shot but narrowly escaped losing his life, he added, highlighting the assassination attempt. As soon as he stood up, following the endeavor, he raised his fist in the air. The Americans saw his fist-raising as an indication of his powerful character.

Someone who refuses to let themselves be defeated by external forces. Even though you were almost killed, you have shown incredible resilience; after all, it's not if you fall, but how you get back up that matters, as the American proverb goes. However, he said that Biden's image was tarnished by his advancing years, which manifested as slurred speech, forgetfulness of names, and an erroneous impression of his personality. With Kamala Harris's entry into the race, the dynamics will shift as the age order is reversed.
