US Seeks India's Help for "Just Peace" in Ukraine

July 19, Washington, DC,:
U.S. officials have asked their Indian counterparts to back initiatives to "realise an enduring and just peace for Ukraine," noting the many important areas in which the two countries work together. According to US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel, when asked about the relationship between India and the US in relation to Prime Minister Modi's recent trip to Russia, the statement reads: "Broadly, India continues to be a country in which we partner with in a number of key areas and that was clearly on display last summer when we hosted Prime Minister Modi for a State visit."
"But, beyond that, in the context of Ukraine and Russia's ongoing aggression and infringement on Ukraine's territorial sovereignty, we continue to ask all partners, including India, to support efforts to realise an enduring and just peace for Ukraine, and we urge Russia to withdraw troops from Ukraine's sovereign territory," according to him.
While in Russia from July 8th to the 9th, Prime Minister Modi met with President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was disappointed by Prime Minister Modi's travel to Russia, which he described as a "devastating blow to peace efforts."
It is "heart-wrenching" when innocent children die during conflicts, Prime Minister Modi said during his bilateral discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the prime minister, the loss of life hurts everyone who believes in humanity. Notably, a children's hospital in Kyiv was targeted by a missile strike that killed 37 children not long ago.
Everyone who believes in humanity feels sadness whenever lives are lost, whether in war, conflicts, or terrorist acts. It breaks our hearts, though, to witness the murder or injury of an innocent child. That hurts so much. Prime Minister Modi stated during the meeting that he had a thorough conversation with you regarding this matter. On the battlefield, there is no solution, according to Prime Minister Modi, and peace discussions fail when there are bombs, firearms, and bullets.
Since hostilities broke out between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, this was Prime Minister Modi's first trip to Russia. In an effort to end the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, India has consistently pushed for "peace and diplomacy" as a solution.
