Debate Date Uncertain as US Vice President Harris and Vance Discuss

Washington, DC July 17 :
A spokesperson for the Biden-Harris campaign announced on July 16 that U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris had invited J.D. Vance, who was the running mate of former President Donald Trump, to participate in a debate that would be broadcast on CBS on August 13.

Once Vance was chosen as Trump's vice presidential nominee on July 15, Harris left him a voicemail asking those questions. Someone informed us that the two candidates had a conversation on July 16, but that neither camp had yet decided on a date for the debate.

Following a request for comment, neither the Trump nor Biden campaigns ever responded.

The vice president of the Democratic Party had already agreed to a discussion on July 23 or August 13 on CBS, but Trump's campaign wanted to debate on Fox News, which President Joe Biden's team had previously stated they would not accept. Someone with knowledge of the situation said that the July date for the CBS debate is no longer being considered.

Representing the Republican National Committee, Lara Trump stated, "I think he'd be more than happy to go forward with the debate." She was referring to Vance. I fail to perceive any rationale for his non-compliance. Personally, I believe it to be key. A vice presidential debate has always been a part of our process, you know. Seeing it would be really delightful for us.
