Elon Musk Denies Plans to Fund Pro-Trump Super PAC, Labels Report "Fake"

July 16, California:
Reports have surfaced that Tesla CEO Elon Musk intends to donate USD 45 million monthly to a new super PAC endorsing the presidential campaign of former US President Donald Trump. Musk has dismissed the claims as "fake." A photo of two gnus (wildebeests) with human limbs was posted by Elon Musk on X with the comment "Fake GNUS." The post was satirical. The article on X from The Wall Street Journal was even shared by him.

The Wall Street Journal claimed, citing sources familiar with the situation, that Musk intends to donate USD 45 million monthly to a new super PAC endorsing Trump's presidential campaign; this is in response to Musk's statement. According to one of the sources, America PAC was established in June with the goal of increasing voter registration and encouraging residents in battleground states to cast their ballots early and obtain absentee ballots through mail.

Aware of the resources allocated to so-called "on-the-ground efforts" in battleground areas by the Biden camp, the alliance noted that the Democrats have traditionally run extremely effective "get out the vote" campaigns. The Wall Street Journal reports that America PAC will try to counter that.

To this day, Musk's estimated worth exceeds USD 250 billion, making him the wealthiest person in the world. Several individuals acquainted with the situation have stated that America PAC has engaged a large staff to register voters, engage in constituent conversations in battleground states, and encourage voters to obtain mail-in ballots.

The three-month period ending on June 30, according to a form released on Monday, America PAC received USD 8.75 million in contributions, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

In a March post on X, Elon Musk stated his intention to neither donate to Trump's or US President Joe Biden's campaigns. Nevertheless, according to The Wall Street Journal, the CEO of Tesla has grown closer to Donald Trump in the past few months.

The former president was the target of an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, prompting Musk to publicly declare his support for Trump for president. X posted by Musk read: "I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery." He later wrote, "Theodore Roosevelt was the last time America had a candidate this tough."

On Saturday, while Trump was speaking at a campaign rally, the sound of gunfire was heard and Secret Service members rushed the stage. Hours subsequent to the incident, Trump stated that the projectile had entered his right ear through the top portion. Furthermore, the shooting at the gathering resulted in the death of one rallygoer and injuries to two others. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was identified by the FBI. The case is still under investigation.
