Nancy Pelosi, George Clooney, and Democratic Senators Raise Concerns Over Biden's Re-Election Bid

July 11 :
While she avoided saying explicitly that she wanted Joe Biden to run for president in 2024, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a longtime Biden supporter, did warn that he must decide soon whether to remain in the campaign. George Clooney, a Democratic actor and producer who co-hosted a fundraiser for Joe Biden last month, has announced his intention to withdraw his support for the senator in an opinion article published in the New York Times.
Pelosi's comments, which disregarded Biden's repeated claims that he is still running, hinted that he may encounter new skepticism from his Democratic party colleagues. For almost two weeks, 81-year-old Joe Biden has tried to keep Democratic lawmakers, contributors, and other supporters from abandoning him in fear that he could lose the vote on November 5th to 78-year-old Donald Trump, following Biden's dismal performance in the debate on June 27. The president has been quite clear that he intends to run as a Democrat and that he thinks he can defeat Trump.
While Biden visits NATO leaders in Washington this week, Pelosi said on MSNBC that she was urging her colleagues on Capitol Hill who have concerns about him not to air them. I've already told everyone: let's wait. While praising Biden's "spectacular" strong words at the NATO summit on July 9, she advised people to confide in someone privately about their thoughts rather than bringing them to light until the outcome of this week's negotiations.
She was reticent to state her preference for Biden's candidacy. "I want him to do whatever he decides to do," she stated in response. "We're all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short."
Upon being asked to react, Biden's campaign cited a letter that Biden addressed to Democrats in Congress, in which he expressed his "firmly committed" intention to remain in the race and defeat Trump. That Pelosi had "always been committed" to Biden, as she had said on Tuesday, was also mentioned.
Later on Wednesday, Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal expressed his "deeply concerned" feelings on Biden's chances of winning the race, echoing Pelosi's statement.
It hurts to say this, but the Joe Biden I met at the fundraiser three weeks ago was not the Joe 'huge F-ing deal' Biden of 2010," Clooney wrote in his opinion article. Even by 2020 standards, he was no Joe Biden. All of us saw the same guy at the debate," Clooney wrote.
With this president in office, we have no chance of winning in November. Plus, we already know we'll lose the Senate and the House.
At a meeting of the AFL-CIO executive council in Washington on Wednesday, Biden was welcomed with thunderous applause by a gathering of labor leaders who constitute a significant portion of his electoral base. The purpose of the meeting was to address "their shared commitment to defeating Donald Trump," according to the Biden campaign.
During the meeting, Biden brought up the need to address housing shortages, high food prices, and exorbitant rents. "With your help, we will accomplish a great deal in a second term," Biden promised. Thanks to union workers, the United States is in a better position than any other nation to dominate the rest of the twenty-first century.
In 2020, Biden defeated Trump in competitive states like Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Michigan thanks to the votes of the working class.
Concerns about Biden's health and sharpness have kept Democrats in Congress from uniting behind him, and some have even urged him to resign. Biden acknowledges the questions but maintains he is fit to serve.
Some are worried that the party's chances of winning the White House and both chambers of Congress in November would be diminished if Biden remains at the head of the ticket. The 213 House members who identify as Democrats have publicly defected, but this is still a small fraction of the total, and party leadership has publicly backed Biden.
Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado stated on Tuesday that he did not think Biden could defeat Trump, but no other senator has openly stated that Biden should step aside.
Black Democratic politicians and voters are among Biden's most ardent supporters, and the senator is keen to shift the narrative by surrounding himself with them. His campaign has presented his support for Biden as an act of gratitude for the loyalty he has demonstrated during his fifty years in public service.
President Biden has made his alliance with Big Labor leaders a central tenet of his populist economic program, and his first 2020 campaign rally was in a Pittsburgh union hall in 2019. When he met with UAW members in September to discuss pay rises, he made history as the first sitting president to participate in a union strike. During his address attacking Russian President Vladimir Putin, Biden utilized the NATO meeting as a global platform. He will meet with NATO leaders on Wednesday before entertaining world leaders at supper.
Visiting the Black Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in Dallas following a campaign trip in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris—the party's leading contender in the event that Biden withdraws his candidacy—will address the organization. After the NATO conference, Biden will resume his campaign trail, stopping in Michigan and Nevada, two states that could decide Trump's fate.
