Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Leads US Congressional Delegation in Meeting with PM Modi

June 20 :
While in India on a visit, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul and a bipartisan delegation met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, June 20. Members of the delegation that met with Prime Minister Modi today included former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Yesterday, at Dalai Lama's house in Dharamshala, the team met with the Tibetan spiritual leader. It was a privilege to visit with His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, in Dharamsala, India, today. Pelosi posted about the meeting on X afterward: "Today, I joined a bipartisan congressional delegation to meet with His Holiness. We reaffirmed the support of Congress for the people of Tibet in our meeting.
Along with Ami Bera, Jim McGovern, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Nicole Malliotakis, and Gregory Meeks, the visiting group also includes Representatives from the United States. On Wednesday night, the bicameral group also met with Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
Jaishankar expressed gratitude for their "strong and continued" backing of the US-India strategic alliance.
Meeting with the bipartisan US Congressional delegation lead by @RepMcCaul was a pleasure, according to the EAM's X post. The participation of Speaker Pelosi, Representative Gregory Meeks, Representative Michael Miller, Senator Nikole Halley, Representative Era, and Representative McGovern is greatly appreciated. I am grateful for their unwavering backing of the strategic collaboration.
Officials from the Central Tibetan Administration welcomed the US congressional delegation upon their arrival in India on Tuesday at Kangra Airport in Himachal Pradesh. The US congressmen arrived in Dharamshala, where they were to see the Dalai Lama, a spiritual leader from Tibet.
A framed copy of "The Resolve Tibet Act," a law passed by the US Congress to boost US support for Tibet, was handed to the Dalai Lama by Representative McCaul. The bill was bipartisan. The United States Congress approved a measure last week calling on China to resume talks with the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan leaders in an effort to end their long-running territorial conflict amicably.
The US representatives were invited to a public felicitation programme at the main Tibetan shrine before their meeting with the Dalai Lama. At the felicitation ceremony in Dharamshala's courtyard of the Tsuglagkhang Complex, children showcased Tibetan culture through performances. According to the Dalai Lama's office, when the meeting with the US congressional delegation concluded, the Dalai Lama gave Pelosi a statue of the Buddha.
