Biden Apologizes to Zelenskyy for Aid Package Delay to Ukraine

June 8 :
In a meeting held in Washington, DC, on June 8, US President Joe Biden reportedly apologised to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the postponement of the approval of a new military aid package due to opposition from Republicans in Congress.
In a bilateral meeting with Zelensky on Friday, Biden announced a new aid package for Ukraine and delivered an apology at the same time.

The president of Ukraine was informed by Biden, "You know, you haven't bowed down, you haven't yielded at all, you continue to fight in a way that is just remarkable, is just remarkable--and we're not going to walk away from you," according to CNN They were having "trouble in getting the bill" passed, the US president emphasised. "I apologise for the weeks of not knowing what's going to pass, in terms of funding, because we had trouble getting the bill that we had to pass that had the money from some of our very conservative members who were holding it up, but we got it done," according to him.

According to CNN, Biden used the occasion to brag about the increased funds for Ukraine since he signed the supplemental in April and about Friday's funding announcement. "Since then, including today, I've announced six packages of significant funding--today I'm also signing an additional package for USD 225 million to help you reconstruct the electric grid," Biden stated during his speech.
Inviting nations to the Ukraine Peace Summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that "time is running" out to return Ukrainian youngsters "abducted by Russia" who, he said, are being indoctrinated to loathe their own country.

He remarked that everyone should feel comfortable speaking their minds and that the world wants to be one and able to behave in "complete harmony." More than a hundred nations and international organisations will be attending the summit, according to the president of Ukraine. He emphasised the need to ensure the safety of nuclear weapons, food supplies, prisoners of war, and the children of Ukraine who were "abducted by Russia."

At the peace summit in Ukraine, US President Joe Biden will not be there, according to the White House. Next week, US Vice President Kamala Harris and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will go to Switzerland for the conference.
