International Day of Yoga to be Celebrated by Consulate General of India in San Francisco

June 8 :
Observing the tenth annual International Day of Yoga on June 21, the San Francisco Consulate General of India will host a celebration. The subject for this year, 'Women's Empowerment,' will highlight how yoga may improve the emotional, mental, and physical health of women.

In observance of this day and to bring attention to the many health advantages of yoga, the San Francisco Consulate General of India is collaborating with local authorities and Indian associations to organise yoga programmes in many cities under its consular jurisdiction. These gatherings will honour the ancient Indian practice of yoga while giving attendees the opportunity to feel its holistic benefits firsthand.

At these gatherings, you can practise yoga with the guidance of certified instructors, hear about the many health advantages of yoga, and enjoy cultural entertainment.

Yoga is an ancient Indian discipline with a long history that seeks, through physical, mental, and spiritual practices, to bring about a state of balance between the individual's internal and external environments. On the recommendation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014, the International Day of Yoga was established by the United Nations General Assembly on June 21, recognising the global health benefits of yoga.

Prior to this event, on June 7th, the consular office collaborated with The Art of Living to host a virtual kickoff programme.
By the way, starting from June 8th, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco will be open from 2 pm to 4 pm on all holidays (Saturdays, Sundays, and other public holidays) in order to accommodate any general public emergency.

It was stated in a press release that applicants should call the Consulate's emergency helpline number, +1 (415) 483-6629, to find out what documents are needed for emergency services and to make sure they qualify for them. This is because these services cannot be delayed until the next business day. This service is specifically for urgent travel documents, such as an emergency visa, an emergency certificate (to go to India right away), or the transportation of a deceased person's remains, according to the Consulate. Standard practice dictates that applicants will be charged an emergency service fee in order to get an emergency visa.
