U.S. President Joe Biden calls on Qatar to put pressure on Hamas to accept Israel's ceasefire offer

June 4 :
On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden spoke with the Emir of Qatar and urged him to take all necessary steps to ensure that Hamas accepts the agreement, three days after Biden announced Israel's proposal for a truce in Gaza, which includes the release of hostages. This conversation took place in Washington DC. The US President Joe Biden and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, spoke about how the hostage arrangement and truce provide a clear path towards resolving the Gaza conflict.

In addition, President Biden expressed his gratitude for his team's dogged pursuit of the release of all hostages in Gaza. "Today I had a conversation with Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar about the hostage deal and truce, and how they provide a clear path forward for resolving the Gaza conflict. In an X post, he congratulated Amir Tamim and his team for their relentless efforts to achieve the release of all captives detained in Gaza and asked them to employ all appropriate means to secure Hamas' acceptance of the accord. "The United States, together with Egypt and Qatar, will work to ensure the full implementation of this agreement," said the article.

According to CNN, President Joe Biden informed the American people earlier on Friday that Israel had put out a "comprehensive new proposal" that lays out a plan to end the hostage crisis in Gaza and end the war between Israel and Hamas.

A "roadmap" for a ceasefire is outlined in the plan that Qatar sent to Hamas, according to Biden. The first phase, lasting six weeks, entails a "full and complete ceasefire with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas of Gaza" & "release of a number of hostages including women, the elderly, the wounded in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners."

The announcement comes after Israel proposed new ideas about hostage and truce talks earlier this week, according to a diplomatic source. Israel and Hamas froze direct talks three weeks ago over hostage release conditions because of disputes over specific criteria. Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister, has said that the war will not end until Hamas is no more.
