The Democratic primary for the Georgia Senate has been won by Ashwin Ramaswami.

Georgia Senate District 48's Democratic primary winner, Ashwin Ramaswami, will face off against Republican Senator Shawn Still in November. Ramaswami is the first member of Generation Z to compete for office in the United States.

The first Indian American and first member of Generation Z to serve as a state senator in Georgia would be Ramaswami, if elected. He has degrees in both computer science and law.

A computer science graduate of Stanford University, Ramaswami was born to Tamil Nadu immigrant parents. He went on to attend Chinmaya Mission Balavihar. Infused with a passion in Sanskrit and old Indian writings, his early education at Chinmaya brought together his two identities of Indian and American cultures.

Ramaswami has a background in assisting small enterprises, startups, and organisations in their efforts to use technology for social good and to provide employment opportunities.

During his time at CISA, he oversaw cybersecurity and election security for the 2020 and 2022 elections, among other things. He also served as a legal fellow for the consumer protection division of the Georgia attorney general's office.

As the general election approaches, Ramaswami's campaign is in a strong position, having raised over $280,000 and having $208,000 in cash on hand. Growing up, I was immersed in both Indian and American culture. It's my faith. "Indian culture and philosophy have always fascinated me," he stated in a recent interview.

According to his statement to Ballotpedia, he is prepared to construct an economy that benefits working families, guarantee that all children have access to a top-notch education, enact reasonable regulations to prevent the spread of gun violence, safeguard the right of every family to make their own decisions regarding reproductive healthcare, and maintain the defence of our democracy against both foreign and domestic challenges. He declared his candidature for the Georgia State Senate on the basis of his belief that the state is capable of supporting human habitation.
