Amid Russian advances, the United States will increase its military aid to Ukraine by USD275 million.

May 24 :
The nation's capital, May 24: The war between Russia and Ukraine shows no signs of ending, with Kremlin forces continuing their relentless pursuit of an invasion of Ukraine. The Washington Post cited two US sources as saying that the US is about to announce another round of military aid to the war-torn country, with a value of USD 275 million. The long-awaited foreign aid measure was passed by Congress last month, and this is the fourth installment of military money for Ukraine.

A variety of weapons and ammunition vital to Ukraine's defensive operations are part of the aid package that is about to be revealed. Items include HIMARS rocket systems, high-demand artillery rounds (155 mm and 105 mm), anti-tank systems (Javelin and AT-4), mines (anti-tank), tactical vehicles, small arms, ammo, and more.

At a recent meeting of defence chiefs from Europe and other countries, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin acknowledged the gravity of the situation and reaffirmed America's dedication to supporting Ukraine. In response to the pressing threats presented by Russia's aggressiveness, he stressed the need for a continuous supply of weaponry to the front lines in Ukraine, as reported by The Washington Post.

In light of Russian incursions and assaults on civilian infrastructure, the necessity for Ukraine to strengthen its military capabilities has been highlighted by the continuing conflict. The Biden administration has made it a priority to speed up military supplies to Ukraine, despite setbacks in Congress. Since the foreign aid package of USD 95 billion was passed, approximately USD 1.7 billion worth of weaponry have been disclosed and sent from Pentagon stockpiles.

In addition, the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative has received USD 6 billion from the US, which will allow the defence sector to enter into longer-term contracts. But these weapons might not materialise in their entirety for months—if not years—after delivery.

Following this most recent distribution, the sum total of US military aid to Ukraine since the crisis began in February 2022 approaches USD 51 billion. According to The Washington Post, this significant backing shows that the United States is determined to help Ukraine strengthen its defences and fight against Russian aggression in the area.
