New Leadership Sworn In by Federation of Indian Associations Chicago

At a ceremony held at the Holiday Inn in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago–1980, introduced its new president, Nitin Patel, and named its executive committee for the 10 years beginning in 2024.Organisers began the event with a Deep Pragatya, also known as a Diya Lamp Lighting Ceremony, presided over by Somnath Ghosh, the Consul General of India in Chicago.

Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) was another topic of lively conversation at the occasion, with Consul General Ghosh fielding questions and concerns from members of the Indian community. According to the FIA Chicago-1980 press release, the interactive session was much enjoyed by all who attended.

Former 2023 EVP Dr. Rashmi Patel's successor, Nitin Patel, has promised to keep helping the Indian diaspora with immigration matters and hosting events to honour the vibrant heritage of the community, such as Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations. At the 2024 Executive Committee's Oath Ceremony, everyone was officially welcomed, including Roshan Patel, who was appointed as Executive Vice President, as well as Vice Presidents Anil Singh, Dipal Patel, and Narshi Patel. With him was Paras Kayastha, who was sworn in as Treasurer. While Kruti Pandya remains in her position as Secretary, Chhaya Patel has been appointed as Joint Secretary. The incoming president, Nitin Patel, expressed gratitude to Dr. Rashmi Patel for her service as president and thanked the trustees and all affiliated members for their support.

Nitin Patel laid out his plans for the next term, some of which involve growing FIA Chicago: Joining forces with more Indian diaspora members to strengthen FIA Chicago; serving the community by planning more events like OCI camps and educational programmes to meet their needs; celebrating diversity through promoting Indian cultural events; and working together for the betterment of all Indian Americans is our shared goal.
