Two US tourists of Indian origin, who were stranded, have been rescued from Churdhar Valley in Himachal Pradesh

May 13 :
Authorities in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district reported that two American tourists of Indian descent were rescued by army helicopters on May 11 after being stuck in the Churdhar Valley region. Two Army helicopters rescued two American citizens, Richa Abhay Sonawane and Sonia Ratan, from Teesri on the Nohradhar-Churdhar hike route. Following their rescue, the two were sent to a hospital in Chandigarh, according to Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta, who spoke to outlets.

The rescue operations required close cooperation between the US embassy, the respective ministries of home affairs, external affairs, and defence in India.

After receiving a request from the civil administration to remove an American national who sustained a spinal injury while trekking, the IAF sent a Cheetah helicopter to the scene of the accident. According to X, the Indian Force announced the successful evacuation of a lady trekker from the dangerous Teesri village in Himachal Pradesh to Chandigarh, where she will receive additional medical treatment. As an added bonus, Khimta said that the two American women of Indian descent are no longer in danger.

The local resident Ramlal has warned that, due to the extremely unfavourable weather, hikers should not attempt to reach the Churdhar summit at this time.

Typically, the mountaineering community considers the 12,000-foot Churdhar trip to be of intermediate difficulty. But there are reports that the first hour of the walk is exceedingly difficult, with steep, rocky slopes.
