Full Palestinian membership in the UN is supported by India and opposed by the US in a landmark decision.

May 11 :
By a vote of 143 to 9, with the US and Israel abstaining, the United Nations General Assembly supported Palestine's bid for full membership on May 10. A total of 25 member nations chose not to cast a ballot. t takes a recommendation from the Security Council to grant Palestine full membership, nevertheless.
“We want peace, we want freedom,” Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour told the UNGA before the vote, emphasising that a yes vote would mean supporting the Palestinian existence rather than opposing any state. Put simply, it's a bet on world peace. The correct thing to do is to vote yes," he declared, eliciting cheers from the audience.
A two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine problem has long been India's proposal. While condemning the terrorist acts by Hamas, New Delhi has also demanded a homeland for the Palestinian people.
"We have supported a negotiated two-state solution, towards establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable state of Palestine within secure and recognised borders, living side by side in peace with Israel," the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press statement issued in February 2024.
In an effort to clarify, Ambassador Robert Wood stated that the United States' negative vote did not indicate hostility to Palestinian statehood.
We intend to make a significant dent in its progress, and we have been rather vocal about our support for it. Wood argued that the move actually represents an admission that statehood can only be achieved through direct discussions between the relevant parties.
The safety and continued existence of Israel as a Jewish democratic state can be ensured only by this course of action. The possibility of Palestinians living in dignity and peace within their own state cannot be achieved by any other means," he continued.
Gilad Erhan, the Israeli ambassador, spoke out strongly against the resolution. A choice between capitulation and the battle against terror is before you now. We shall never forget this day. You have made the United Nations a safe haven for Nazism in the current era. It irritates my stomach. Erhan went so far as to hold up a portable document shredder and place the cover of the UN charter inside.
