April 18 :
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, raised the issue of India's bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council earlier this year, and the US has now taken up the matter.

The United States is in support of UN institution reforms that seek to update and better reflect the modern world, according to US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel.

Patel stated, "The President has spoken about this before in his remarks to the UN General Assembly, and the Secretary has alluded to this as well." in response to a question regarding the government's position on Elon Musk's comment during a press briefing. Bringing the United Nations, and the Security Council in particular, up to date with the modern world is an objective that we wholeheartedly endorse.

"At this time, I will refrain from providing further details regarding the steps that will be taken, but rest assured that we are aware of the need for reform," Patel added.

Billionaire Elon Musk called India's non-permanent UNSC seat "absurd" in January. The reason this situation continues, he said in a social media post, is that powerful nations are reluctant to give up their influence.

"There must be a revision of the UN bodies at some point," the CEO of Tesla wrote in an X post. The issue is that those who have too much power are reluctant to relinquish it. It is ridiculous that the world's most populous nation, India, does not have a permanent place on the Security Council. There need to be a permanent seat for Africa as a whole.

This is in line with the promises made by the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in their Lok Sabha election platform, "Sankalp Patra," which sought to get India permanently admitted to the UN Security Council.

A pledge to seek permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council in order to raise Bharat's role in global decision-making was made by the BJP in its election campaign.
