5 new coronavirus cases confirmed in US

Washington, Jan 27 Five people in the US, all of whom visited the Chinese city of Wuhan, have been infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), said an official of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The fifth identified case was reported in Arizona, Xinhua news agendy quoted Nancy Messonier, director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, as saying on Sunday.

The other four cases were reported earlier in the states of California, Illinois and Washington.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said on Sunday that there was "no immediate threat to the general public", and local people can "continue to engage in their regular activities".

The CDC also said that "the immediate risk to the U.S. general public is low at this time".

As of Monday, China reported 80 deaths with 2,744 confirmed cases including 461 persons in critical conditions.

Most of the deaths were from Hubei province, who's capital city Wuhan is the epicentre of the outbreak.
