BAPS Charities Holds Walk Green 2018 in Melville, New York

Community members of all ages came out with their families to support the annual BAPS Charities Walk Green 2018 in Melville, New York on June 3, 2018. 2018 marks the third year that the annual BAPS Charities walkathon will benefit The Nature Conservancy and their effort to conserve the lands and waters on earth to sustain life for upcoming generations. BAPS Charities will contribute $165,000, an equivalent of planting 130,000 trees, to The Nature Conservancy to support their initiative to plant a billion trees globally by 2025. In addition to supporting this global effort, this year’s BAPS Charities walkathon also supported Newsday Charities, which helps local Long Islanders who are in need of food, shelter, and other assistance.

Altogether, over 700 participants attended the walk. Special guests that attended the Walk Green 2018 walkathon were US Congressmen Tom Suozzi, Huntington Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, NY State Assemblyman Andrew Raia, NY State Assemblyman Steve Stern, Carol DeCarmine-Nucci representing NY State Senator John Flanagan, Mr. Paul Fleishman, VP of Public Affairs for Newsday, Anne Salmon from the Nature Conservancy, and Jason Bernfeld of the Melville Fire Department and NYPD.

BAPS Charities uses these opportunities to instill a spirit of service and commitment to preservation and environmental responsibility in community members. Through participation in events and fundraising activities like the walkathon, participants are actively engaged in conversations and actions around sustainability and conservation, becoming owners rather than bystanders.
