“Music is my Religion” Deveshi Halder

This is Deveshi Halder from India. I have recently moved to Seattle with my husband. With a belief “Music is my Religion”, I have been learning music since the age of 6. My father is a tabla player and my mother is a sitar player. Being from a family where music is always a priority motivated me to pursue music. I got the opportunity to learn from various music gurus. Starting from pure classical music, I explored the genre of nazrul geet, rabindra sangeet and adhunik (Modern Bengali songs) too.

The last music institution I attended was Kala Academy, Goa, where I got an opportunity to learn from Kirana gharana. I also got degree certificate in Hindustani Classical music from Prayag and Chandigarh University. I have given numerous live performances over the past two decades. At state level, I got the runner up prize in ‘Voice of Jharkhand’ competition 2008. I also got the winner titles in various cultural competitions like All India Youth Festival -JINKS-07 & 08 for solo singing. In recent years, I was working with my band as a vocalist and also giving voice-overs for few jingles.
After moving to Seattle, I have been working with Pratidhwani as a volunteer. Recently, I have been performing as a vocalist with various bands like Pratidhwani, Rhythms Band and Brishti – A Bengali Band. I feel fortunate enough to perform for the fund-raising events for noble causes like Amrita Seattle, AID India Seattle & WATG charity event.

You can check out the following links to have a glimpse of some of my performances and jam sessions with my fellow musicians.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.
