Mobilization in support of Ravi Ragbir

Immigrant rights activist and community leader Ravi Ragbir was scheduled to report to ICE for deportation this Saturday, February 10, at 26 Federal Plaza in New York. Today, however, a federal court in New Jersey granted a temporary stay on his deportation based on a lawsuit brought by Ragbir on First Amendment grounds, claiming the Trump administration is"selectively enforcing the immigration laws against immigration-rights activists on the basis of their protected speech." An emergency rally is organized on Saturday at 9:00am at Foley Square in front of the federal immigration building to sound resistance against this administration's anti-immigrant policies.

New Sanctuary Coalition, SAALT, and our allies are calling on all New Yorkers to show solidarity with Ravi and immigrant communities across America. This is bigger than just Ravi’s case, or ICE’s crackdown on immigrant rights leaders. We need to stop the escalation of ICE and this administration's attacks on all immigrant communities. This includes targeting activists for deportation, ending DACA and TPS, surveillance and racial profiling of immigrant and Muslim communities, and xenophobic political rhetoric spouted by the Trump administration.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’re asking friends and fellow activists to help hand deliver a message of love for all immigrants at ICE’s office by showing up on February 10 at 9 AM in solidarity with Ravi, Dreamers, TPS recipients, workers, families, and community members. We’ll use messages of love and solidarity to combat the "good immigrant, bad immigrant" narrative. We resent the pressure on immigrants to prove their social or economic worth in order to justify their humanity.

Details might change this week as we get closer to the rally. For the most up-to-date developments about the rally, text ISTANDWITHRAVI to 41411 and track the hashtags #IStandWithRavi and #NewSanctuaryCity.

SAALT and our partners nationwide continue to demand justice and full inclusion for our communities, and we will continue pushing back against this administration's anti-immigrant agenda. Please let us know if you witness any ICE raids or arrests by emailing us at [email protected]. We are committed to going the distance with and for our communities until justice is served for Ravi and all immigrants nationwide.
