NEW YORK – Members of the Indian Diaspora now feel more secured, highly respected and held head high after Narendra Modi assumed charge as Prime Minister of India, said BJP leader Anand Sahu.
Sahu, a member of the Minimum Wages Advisory Board at Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India, who was in New York last week, said Indians abroad were faced with embarrassing situations when the erstwhile Congress Party were riddled with corruption and misuse of power ruled the nation for a decade.
Modi’s neighborhood diplomacy falling in place as relations with Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka look up and India has become a much-respected country in the comity of nations. Modi carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir and brought peace to Jammu and Kashmir. Sahu was in the US last week visiting New York, New Jersey, Washington DC to meet with the American think tanks, Indian diplomats, community leaders and cultural organizations to assess the impact of BJP Government and its economic policies on the Indian diaspora.

Indian economy has never been stronger like never before and the nation is proud to have a leader who works 24/7 without a break. He said he had a positive feedback from American think tanks and diaspora leaders on India’s economic upturn and successful high growth rate.
New integrated transportation initiative for roads, railways, waterways and civil aviation and regional air connectivity scheme with fares starting at about Rs2500 has been hailed as progressive measures, he said.
Also getting states on board to introduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the biggest tax reform since independence combined with a crackdown on black money leading to a surge in 2016-17 tax receipts and hike in a number of return filers has given a new direction to the economy. Getting unanimity on the economic reforms agenda with high parliamentary productivity has proved to be a feather in Mod’s cap, he said.
In the social service sector, measures such as six months of paid maternity leave for working women and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched to eliminate open defecation and promote cleanliness has come under praise. Ending Soviet-style five-year plans and enunciating a 15-year vision plan has been hailed as progressive measures, he added.
