Amazon's FMCG business grows 215% in 2016
Kolkata, July 28 : Online retailer Amazon.in on Thursday said its fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) business grew 215 per cent on a year-on-year basis in 2016.
"In 2016, the FMCG business has grown over 215 per cent year-on-year in terms of units, driven by grocery which grew at 412 per cent, health and personal care at 311 per cent and the beauty category at 265 per cent," a company statement said.
The online retailer witnessed a strong growth in the category from tier II and tier III cities with nearly 50 per cent of the orders coming from outside the top eight cities, it said.
The FMCG selection today stands at cover 19 lakh products and has grown over 500 per cent year-on-year with close to 9,000 sellers on the platform currently selling under this category, the company said.
