Chicago, June 19

Days after Christina Grimmie's tragic murder, Alejandro 'Jano' Fuentes, a singer from the Mexican version of "The Voice", was shot dead in an ambush after celebrating his 45th birthday with friends here.

Fuentes was shot in the head three times on Thursday when someone approached the car he was in, and ordered him to get out of the vehicle at gunpoint, reports mirror.co.uk.

The Chicago Tribune on Saturday reported that Fuentes refused and the gunman fired multiple shots, leaving him in a critical condition as he was taken to a hospital. According to the medical examiner's office, Feuntes was pronounced dead later.

The police said on Saturday that no one was taken into custody over the attack.

The tragic news comes within a week of Christina Grimmie -- who appeared on the US version of "The Voice" -- was shot while greeting fans after a concert in Orlando, Florida.

On Friday, she was laid to rest in a small memorial service in her hometown in the state of New Jersey.
