Singer Ila Paliwal to receive Woman of Distinction Award at Children’s Hope India luncheon

New York: Children’s Hope India will honor singer Ila Paliwal with the Woman of Distinction Award at the spring luncheon on June 3 at Swan Club in Roslyn, Long Island.

 Paliwal  is a classically trained vocalist, song writer and producer. Her album Navaratna was released by Maestro A.R. Rahman at her performance in Carnegie Hall. This year she is performing at Kennedy Center and also with Rahman during his North American tour. Ila also supports several philanthropic causes.

Last year's honorees were noted cooking authority and actor Madhur Jaffrey and her daughter, the actor Sakina Jaffrey.

Last year's luncheon raised $,25 000 for the homeless youth in New York.  20 homeless girls in Covenant House were given scholarships to attend a 4 month program qualifying them to become certified Nurse’s Aides. This year the proceeds of the luncheon will benefit children in the New York city homeless shelters.

The CHI lunch is truly the lunch that keeps on giving! Once again over 200 women will meet to honor a woman of distinction and to celebrate with friends, food and music and a chance to shop to benefit Children's Hope India.

Children’s Hope India is a volunteer organization of Indian women professionals in New York that has been raising funds for children’s health and education since 1992. It supports over 20 projects across several major cities in India and has reached thousands of children since its inception.

A highlight of the 2015 spring luncheon is the Woman of Distinction Award, given to a woman who has managed to balance the challenges of the workplace, home and social responsibility.

The Spring luncheon is an annual event organized by the CHI benefit committee comprising of Babita Advani, Milan Devjani, Aarti Kamat, Moneesha Sani, and Madhulika Shroff. It is coordinated by Jharna Jaisinghani of Artistic Affairs.

 Jill Abraham is the owner of The Chintz Giraffe, a giftware company that offers beautiful tabletop items and gifts at affordable prices, specializing in hostess birthday and holiday gifts. All items are beautifully wrapped and ready to go!

Ashley Hilton Kadakia founder of Beyond Bombay, sources goods from India and brings them to you at excellent prices via trunk shows and online outlets. Beyond Bombay also has a partnership with the Indian stationary company, Kakhi Designs, and will present their new collection of stationary, gift bags and more at the luncheon.

Anila Lalvani's Ashaana showcases elegant cashmere scarves embellished with Swarovski crystals, sequins, and Chantilly lace. A portion of the proceeds are donated to non profits helping battered women in India and New Jersey.

Rohini Bedi is a Los Angeles-based Indian designer who got her start in India in the 70s. Her collection focuses on traditional Indian wear with a western stylistic edge. Bedi also offers custom bridal wear for the Indian “dulhan” .
