April 25 :
Despite withdrawing from the campaign weeks ago, former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who is Indian American, garnered over 150,000 votes in Tuesday's Pennsylvania primary. The Hill reports that Haley received approximately 157,000 votes, or 16.6% of the total, in the most recent election results, which were reported shortly after 9 am EDT on Wednesday. All of the ballots have been counted.

In the winner-take-all primary, all of Pennsylvania's delegates will go to former president Donald Trump, who still easily won the primary with over 80% of the vote according to the most recent tally. The Hill pointed out that, despite Haley's withdrawal from the competition at the beginning of the month, her total is still substantial.

After a considerably wider field was reduced to two contenders by January, the first Indian American to achieve a cabinet post as the US ambassador to the UN under Trump emerged as the only remaining competitor to her former employer in the Republican primary. After Super Tuesday in March, Haley decided she couldn't keep up with Trump and dropped out of the race.

However, in a number of counties on Tuesday, Haley seemed to have hit or nearly achieved 20%. Given that Trump became the Republican nominee last month after securing enough delegates, her performance may not have changed much after he took the state.

Pennsylvania is a crucial battleground state that might decide who wins the presidency, according to the Hill, so this could be a cause for concern in the general election.

Each vote may have more weight in this state than in many others, according to Decision Desk HQ/The Hill's average of the state's polls, which shows that Trump is just 0.4% ahead of President Joe Biden.

In the past few weeks, Haley has maintained her popularity in other states. The Hill reported that she won over 77,000 votes in the March Georgia primary, which was held just days after she withdrew, over 150,000 votes in the Washington primary, or nearly 20% of the total, and over 110,000 votes in the Arizona primary.
