Well-Known Sikh Builder Fatally Shot in Edmonton, Canada

April 9 :
Canadian news outlets reported that on April 9, a famous Edmonton builder and leader of the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, Boota Singh Gill, was fatally shot. Homicide detectives from the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) are in charge of looking into what happened to Gill.

The EPS was alerted to a shooting incident near the intersection of Cherniak Way SW and Cavanagh Boulevard SW. Officers found three men with injuries when they arrived. According to the official press release from the Edmonton Police, two men, ages 49 and 57, were found dead, and a man, aged 51, suffered significant injuries. This information was provided by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Police issued a notice to the public after the incident, asking them to stay away between Cavanagh Blvd SW and 30 Avenue SW as they investigated. Officers had cleared the area, and the police said the public was not in danger at this time.

The timing of Gill's death appears to have coincided with extortion attempts, according to reports. Across Canada, members of the Indian community have been the targets of a string of comparable incidents, to which this one adds. During a routine media conference, Randhir Jaiswal, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs, voiced concern over the situation in response to questions.

"People receiving extortion calls, especially Indian nationals, is a matter of serious concern," said Jaiswal. The recent assault on a temple was one of the persistent issues he brought up as a result of tensions between Canada and India. After looking into the temple invasion, Canadian officials concluded that the perpetrator was mentally unstable.

There have been no suspects or arrests announced in relation to the crime, and the authorities are still trying to determine Gill's murder's motive. The tragedy has caused a great deal of anxiety and concern in the surrounding population, leading to increased security measures and heightened monitoring.
